How it all began
Although we overlapped for two years in college at Colgate, we didn’t meet until we matched on Hinge in San Francisco. We had our first date at Mission Dolores Park in May 2020.
Ever since that first date, we have been basically inseparable. We quickly learned that we almost met at Colgate a number of times - we were certainly at house parties together and spent the same summer at Colgate. The closest call was during Caroline’s freshman year and Tom’s junior year when we had Spanish class right after each other in the same classroom. Caroline arrived early to every class and Tom always took a while packing up, meaning we passed each other in the hall four days a week for an entire semester.
As transplants to the west coast, we made the most of what California has to offer together. We spent five amazing years skiing in Lake Tahoe, taking trips up to Sonoma and Napa, camping, traveling around the state, and hanging out with our cats, James and Sophie.
And the rest is history
Tom proposed on August 2, 2024, in Deià, Mallorca at the end of a lovely European vacation. Tom had identified the spot he wanted to propose a year earlier during a Buehler family bike trip and carried his grandmother Gigi’s ring in the lining of his backpack during the whole trip.
On the day of the proposal, we spent the morning and early afternoon hiking, exploring a small village, and going for lunch at a restaurant he kept talking about being excited to try. Caroline thought that was the whole plan for the day! Only when Tom woke Caroline up from an afternoon nap with an espresso and started ironing his pants did Caroline think maybe she should dress up for dinner. She still had no idea what was in store! Tom proposed on an outlook over the Mediterranean, followed by the most incredible dinner.
